Dangers Amid the Beauty

The Austrian Times reported (HERE) that ice skaters recently found a 250-kilo World War II bomb in the frozen Alte Donau (Old Danube), an oxbow lake near the center of Vienna. The paper also reported that nearly 28 tons of unexploded World War I and II munitions were secured in Austria in 2009. In addition, the paper has frequent reports of hikers being seriously injured or killed by falling off mountains. Furthermore, an astonishing 10,000 skiers in Austria were hospitalized for ski-related accidents in a two-week period around Christmas and New Year's. So let's all be advised while we are enjoying the immense natural beauty of Austria to stick to the trails and exercise due caution on mountain edges and ski slopes. Happy trails to you!
