With water dripping from the ceiling on a rainy day, Istanbul's subterranean 6th Century Basilica Cistern is one of the most unusual places I've ever seen. Big carp swim in water that is used today for irrigation rather than drinking. It's elegant columns and pool was featured in the James Bond film, From Russia with Love in 1963.
Learned of this place from the James Bond movie. It is amazing. Your picture captures the exotic mystery of the place.
ReplyDeleteI'm anxious to rent the movie as I've forgotten the scene (saw it way back when...but I can imagine him speed-boating through here.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen the movie in decades, but as I remember he was in a row boat and had a guide.
ReplyDeleteJames Bond in a rowboat? Sounds tame but I've gotta rent it.
