Enticed by Ice

Having long been intrigued by various ice hotels but knowing I'm too cold-natured to ever be able to stay in one, the opportunity to visit the Stockholm Ice Bar in the Nordic Sea Hotel seemed a more comfortable substitute.

I was not prepared for the mesmerizing beauty of the ice. Had I been a little tougher (or my drink a little stronger), I could have stayed there for hours, studying the patterns in the ice.

Blocks of ice are harvested from Lapland's Torne River.

This cool bar was designed by the sculptor, Lena Kriström.

  1. You must have some nice ice near you, too, up there in Canada, eh?

  2. We have ice on the rivers but not much snow this winter. We have one of our winter festivals on now, the Festival du Voyageur. Reg and I will be going on the weekend to the fiddle and jigging competitions. Hopefully we will have time to go to the Snow Bar and check out the entertainment. They are having trouble with the snow sculptures melting this year.
