Belvedere's Grand Stairwell

Vienna's Belvedere Palace was built by Parisian Prince Eugene of Savoy who was given a massive fortune for saving Vienna from a Turkish invasions in 1697.  He was a great patron of the arts, gardening and architecture and this magnificent home of his now houses many of Gustav Klimt's works, including The Kiss as well as a lovely Van Gogh landscape that did not even have a label on it (last week).

  1. That is indeed a grand staircase. The sculpture on the newel posts in interesting. Two naked babies and a chicken? Perhaps that is suppose to be an eagle, but it looks more like a chicken. Interesting photos, thanks.
