Cross-Country Skiing in Inzell, Germany

Just a few kilometers from my favorite commune-with-Nature spot, Thumsee, is the village of Inzell in southern Bavaria, Germany. We visited there over the weekend to try our hand (and arms and legs) at langlauf, or cross-country skiing. What a pretty village:

Inzell will be the site of the 2011 ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships.

Signs greeted us as we entered the cross-country ski trails.

The landscape was sublime.

Other skiers passed us as we rested at the top of a hill. It actually didn't seem too hard to climb hills in these new skis (much easier than in years past) but the zippy-trip downhill was outside of my comfort zone. I'm not used to going that fast without a car, train or plane around me.

We really enjoyed the scenery. Have a look with us:
